When Holmes decided to have a little amusement at the expense of Colonel Ross, I hid a smile. I knew that the colonel’s attitude was beginning to wear thin. Holmes was used to receiving more deference from his clients. However, I was sure that the colonel would come around quickly when his horse was returned with Holmes’s usual dramatic flair.
