SIXN -- The Adventure of the Six Napoleons

“You'll dine with us, Lestrade, and then you are welcome to the sofa until it is time for us to start.”

It was a merry meal. Both Holmes and Lestrade were in high spirits. As I watched them trade good-natured barbs, I marveled at how far we had all come since the early days of our acquaintance. Then, Lestrade had been hostile, Holmes dismissive. Now? We would venture out tonight into danger, each man with two trusted friends at his side.

Haha, I seem to have had a completely different take on that line!

I do like the whole idea of Lestrade having become friends with Holmes and Watson.

This part of the story was the most outstanding to me, too, I think. It's just so nice to see that development, for all of them.

I'm sure my own wishes/hopes affect how I percieve this, but I so want to believe that Holmes, Watson, and Lestrade were friends by the time Holmes returned, I can't help but grab onto any textual evidence of this and run with it as far as I can. ;-) Thank you!
