"Doctor? Your help, if you would."

Woodley. He wanted me to treat the violent tormentor of the guiltless beauty beside me.

I did my duty as asked. And nothing more.

Ouch. I guess it's hard enough for Watson in more normal cases to combine his two occupations as a doctor, as well as Holmes's assistant in catching criminals, but this must have been agonising.

It's a tough line to walk, I'm sure. Watson is used to patching up soldiers, not criminals.

Oh, good one! I have no trouble believing that Watson would feel this way - or that he would do his duty as a physician, regardless of how little he wanted to do it. You capture that all so very well!

Thanks! The line really stuck out to me. At Holmes' request. Seemed like there was more behind it. That's what's so fun about these 60s -- taking a phrase or a passing moment and building it into a whole small story of its own.
