Spent youth near Ballarat. 1880 - Fifth regiment; later attached to 66th Foot. Shot, 27th of July. Shoulder shattered subclavian grazed (recovered: Peshawar hospital - enteric fever). Gambler (wound pension on racing.) Played three-quarter for Blackheath (thrown over ropes and into crowd at Old Deer Park)
