The Three Garridebs

Title: Influence

Rating; G

Notes: Sorry, folks. All the angsty, shippy potential and I went for the humour. The conjuction of dates (ACD was knighted in October 1902, this story is set in June of that year) and my personal headcanon for the Holmes and Doyle relationship was irresistible.

“I see Doyle is to be knighted, Holmes.”

“I suppose his mother insisted. I am fortunate that you made no such protest, my dear Watson.”

“As you very well know, there are two reasons for that: one, you wouldn't have listened to me; two, you didn't even tell me until afterwards.”

“It slipped my mind.”

It is quite just, I think, given the nature of Doyle's feelings for the character.

Quite convenient, that! I'm glad you went for the knighthood angle. I was curious about that too. Do you think Mycroft had anything to do with it, either getting it started or stopping it for Holmes?

Have you read the Conan-Doyle biography Teller of Tales by Daniel Stashower?

http://www.amazon.com/Teller-Tales-Arthur-Conan-Doyle/dp/0805050744

He points out that Watson, he of the wandering dates and recall, is very specific about when Holmes refused the Knighthood...

and (of course) this was another fine piece in your collection, which i very much enjoyed.

but i disagree about the lack of any machination in today's award lists - which are considered by many to have been debased to a laughing stock over the last 20 years.

on the other hand, i wonder if Mycroft was ever knighted???
