[identity profile] spacemutineer.livejournal.com posting in [community profile] sherlock60
Hi, everyone! We're coming up rapidly on the last of the stories for this go-round here at sherlock60. I have loved doing this with you all. It has been fun and challenging and fascinating to experience classic literature in this way together.

In fact, I've had such a good time with it, I'm thinking of keeping the project going for another trip through the canon! Is that something that might appeal to you too? Please fill out the poll below and/or add your comments and let me know what you all think. I'd love to have your opinion on it.

Thanks, friends! I'll be posting again soon with results and thoughts. :)

I'd miss this fun way too much, I think, and it'd keep my literature account on dA alive, though I have no idea what to do with it this time... yet. =P Maybe we can find another approach? A head-theme, or everybody chooses a genre, if they like...? I'd make this a personal decision, but it could help some hesitating writers to find ideas.

I'd been thinking of continuing because I missed the first seven and I'd like the full set. However I'm already starting to find it hard to come up with new angles so wouldn't be able to write every time.

I've been thinking about this and I'd like us to hold a fic exchange, entries to be in multiples of 60 words. If mods and other members like this idea, I'm happy to help with the organisation of it.

Since I found this community so late, I will be doing most of them for the first time anyway. Have wanted to read through the full canon again anyway. This is a good reason to keep up my resolution! I'm happy if others want to change things up a bit with the writing style from week to week though - a different writing format, word length, POV, etc.

Similar to Ennui Enigma, I joined in late so have many which would be new. Happy to go along with a variation on the theme and consider alternative suggestions.

I would be starting fresh so I'd love to run through. I didn't do it the first time so going through it exactly as it was done last time isn't a problem for me but if people are interested in a little different order it could be done via approxomate chronological order by event list found here (http://www.sherlockpeoria.net/Who_is_Sherlock/SherlockTimeline.html).

Or by order of publication in The Strand or by order of publication in the collections both lists found here (http://www.johnhwatsonmd.com/wp-content/uploads/2011/01/The-Canon-A5-V1.pdf)

Like the idea of chronological order, btw :-)

Looking forward to seeing what you come up with. And thank you for making a latecomer feel so welcome:-)

I love the idea of it continuing, because I love getting read everyone's stories, but I probably wouldn't keep writing. Once we've got through them all, I'll have a ficlet for every story, which seems like a good place to stop.

Besides which, I've been telling myself I'll finally stop procrastinating and start watching the Granada series once we're through the canon. It seems silly that I haven't seen them yet.

It was a bit of a race, because I tried to keep up while also catching up with everything I missed, and I've loved every bit of it. In fact, it might have been the BBC series that drew me in, but the fic challenge made me read the stories in order and completion for the very first time. I couldn't quite believe the goodness I'd missed with random reads before, so this was a huge gift.

Chronological would be great! That would make a nice build-up. I've just thought about doing them all from another character's perspective (because I've written 59 stories from Holmes's point of view, with one exception for a story he narrated in the original), but as there's a row of characters I invented accidentally - or who rather invented themselves - it requires some more planning to avoid too much MarySueness.
If I hadn't done so much comedy in the first run, I'd go for a row of that. Drama really isn't my thing I'm afraid. ^^" Anyway, an optional premise would definitely be of help.

I've enjoyed it very much. If you run in chronological order I shall probably just jump in with the one's I've missed when you reach them, but I shall certainly keep reading.

I feel like this too.

You haven't yet seen Granada?!!!!!!!

What a yummy treat you have in store - the glorious Jeremy, cheeky and fun Burke!Watson, steady and dependable Hardwicke!Watson, and the best canon Lestrade ever, the adorably ferret-faced (in the nicest way)Colin Jeavons, Charles Gray as Mycroft, oh, oh... I wish I could see it again for the first time too.

Just cover your eyes for the "fight" scenes - with a few exceptions they are dire 1980s slow fighting - really embarrassing.

My faves, not that you need take any notice: Scandal, just cause; RedHeaded League (and if you know Blackadder, keep your eyes peeled), Blue Carbuncle, Greek Interpreter (with an ahem, better ending IMO than ACD's), Resident Patient, Final Problem, Empty House. Oh, shoot, all of them until Hound, after which Jeremy just gets iller and iller and it all goes to pot.
Except the very last ep, The Cardboard Box. JB looks like death but it's so well done.

Yes, I know what you mean about the 60 word limit, I just thought we could maybe give people the opportunity to expand if they felt so inspired. But we could perfectly well limit it to 60, and it would be a fitting tribute to the comm.

I thought: usual fic exchange format - a sign up post - people can ask for what they want, maybe a particular story, or a theme based in canon (missing and/or refenced adventures, maybe)and say what they'll do, then organisers (of which I'm happy to be one unless you and [livejournal.com profile] methylviolet10b want to keep it to existing mods) match them up where possible.

You/we might need to create a new comm to keep traffic out of [livejournal.com profile] sherlock60 if that will be going around again (sadly, without me as I feel happy with having done it once)? But we could link from here.

Hah, yes, I haven't seen it. I'm the worse Sherlockian ever. *hangs head* I am really looking forward to it - everyone gushes about it, after all. It just feels like something that I need to properly invest in, so I was finishing up a couple of other things I'm watching first, but I'm almost done with that now.

I was trying to think of a thing to do with every episode in order to inspire me (I'll be watching it on my own, and I'm awful for making time to watch things when it's just me), like writing 60 words about each canon story, but I'm not sure I really want to write about them all. Maybe I'll just spam my LJ with my favourite screencap from each episode, or something.

Oh, that sounds good. A bit of motivation and people to watch it 'with' would be awesome. Lining it up with the 60 schedule could work.

Oh, sorry, I wasn't intending to imply that you *ought* to have seen it, just surprised, because IME most canon afficionados have.

If you will be watching of an evening, drop me a line and maybe we can do a mini-watchalong - and/or invite the other 60ers who are in a compatible timezone?

Ah, well, my work hours mean that I'm most likely to be watching them at stupid hours of the night - I don't get home until midnight. Besides which, I find watchalongs pretty difficult to manage, because I'm really not capable of concentrating on more than one thing at a time.

Watching it on the same sort of day, and then discussing/doing something after would be good though, like spacemutineer suggested.

I agree, a kind of "book club" sounds like a great idea. I for one would be happy to make it a regular "date" say on Sundays when most people seem to be around.

I discovered this community late in the cycle, and would like a chance to at least try and participate. Or at least have more to read!

Hi, just spotted this as LJ comments for some reason aren't all getting through, fortunately you only just wrote it - blimey, what time is it over there?

Personally, to avoid cluttering [livejournal.com profile] sherlock60, which has a very specific focus, I'd think a separate comm would be better (but affiliated/linked very closely, of course) - although it would mean people signing up to yet another comm, which may put some off.

I'll still be reading and commenting here, never fear. However, impatient longer WsIP call on the writing front.

Ooh, modly privileges! *Is drunk with power - not really* I think I may post to garner interest for a fic exchange, then, plus advertise at other comms maybe?

There's just not enough Victorian Holmes around Never a truer word.
