Hmm. I would know his foot-fall from any other's, but am hard-pressed to define it. I suspect a word has yet to be coined for a pace in which integrity, curiosity, twenty-five years of Ship's tobacco and regrettable flights of romanticism combine.

If the word has yet to be coined, Holmes should do it himself. Perhaps he would choose something onomatopoeic or something ornate. But it's unnecessary, because this description is as sweetly eloquent as any single word could ever be.

Ah, I remember chuckling over Watson's description of Mrs. Merrilow's waddle! So glad you created a little fic on this one. I love how you bring out Holme's recognition of his friend. It really is sweet! I still want to know what word Holmes would choose :-P
