[identity profile] spacemutineer.livejournal.com posting in [community profile] sherlock60
The ballots are in from the poll, and overwhelmingly you said you'd like to keep going here at [livejournal.com profile] sherlock60 for another go through the canon. I'm thrilled -- let's do it!

Now the first question is, should we change the order we read in for the next time around? [livejournal.com profile] methylviolet10b and I went with alphabetical order to mix things up a bit rather than reading them in the usual publication order. But several people have expressed interest in a chronological order, and that sounds very appealing to me as well. The disadvantage with that change, though, is that writers wanting to catch up with the stories they missed from the beginning of our first run won't be able to do that without waiting or posting catch-ups.

Also, if we go to a chronological order, we have a few choices because the history of Sherlock Holmes is only interpreted, and interpretations vary. One that has been around since the fifties and frequently used is the Baring-Gould chronology. We could also pick a newer analysis from one of the internet Sherlockian groups, such as this one suggested by [livejournal.com profile] bwblack.

Once we've decided on an order, should we add anything else? Several of you expressed interest in having optional extra challenges, such as a theme or format or point of view. That sounds interesting too -- how would you want to work that? Should I spin a wheel every week or something? Whatever we choose, I definitely want to keep it optional, because more than anything we want more canon fic in whatever manner it comes.

Do you like these ideas? Favor something else? Please leave a comment with your thoughts and opinions! We'll try to come to a bit of a consensus and next week, I'll post the instructions for our next go-round. Thank you so much for your help, everyone! Let's go for another terrific 60 weeks of Sherlock Holmes canon fiction!

Edited to add: Oh, almost forgot! [livejournal.com profile] flawedamythyst, [livejournal.com profile] tweedisgood and I are going to be watching the Granada episodes (available on YouTube and Netflix) along with the 60 schedule and discussing them, which will be terrific fun. For my money, Jeremy Brett is the finest Holmes of all time, paired with two of the best Watsons. We hope you will join us for that as well!

WOOHOO!!

*ahem*

I'm definitely in for another round. I wrote all 60 despite having joined so late, but I don't feel like a round of catchups, I'd definitely prefer the production of something new.

As for the theme challenge, I'm definitely supporting optional. Not quite sure what I'm going for this time (last round was all-Sherlock POV), I'd love to add an OC of mine, but have no idea if that would work out on such a small scale.

Otherwise, there might be a set of tropes or a genre to choose (from).

I'll be happy to read but I think I will bow out of writing. Will anything come of [livejournal.com profile] flawedamythyst's idea of a Granada video club - watch the ep, have a discussion later? Because that I would love, although obviously they don't cover all the stories.

Oh, and I forgot: I'd prefer chronological, too. Which order I don't quite care about, because my complete edition isn't in chronological order anyway (they start with all novels).

My dear Holmes, you are depriving yourself of much needed rest. OTOH you're wonderful.

lots of love,

Watson.

P.S. xxx

Looking forward to the viewing club. ETA delete all refs to eps as I have no idea about chronology, oops.

I'm new and I'm really looking forward to reading the stories with everyone - I've read about half of them on my own but the rest are going to be new. I know I'd really prefer to read them in chronological order - or as close as possible, and I don't have much preference over which chronology is used. (Although I admit I'm curious what the differences are, and why, but I imagine I can look at those later on my own.)

I don't care if there's an additional challenge, although it would be nice if it were optional. Maybe depending on how many challenges you come up with, either draw them out of a hat, or just have them on a rotating basis so we know what to expect?

Delighted to hear it as I only caught the tail end of your series. I am happy to look at any variations on the themes. I have written quite a few canon based poems, and , as long as my verse doesn't get too annoying, am quite happy to continue to look at and write about aspects of the canon stories.

Your hard work in sorting this all out is greatly appreciated:-)

If you'd like to post the watchalongs over at [livejournal.com profile] shwatchalongs you might pick up some more people to play there too. And we could use a Brett refresher!

:D

I have fallen off the 60 wagon lately *cue sadface and much fist shaking at RL* but am excited by the prospect of seeing the canon love continue :) Personally, I like the idea of chronological order (not fussed as to whose). Optional challenges: perhaps a random prompt word? Or a pic for inspiration (not necessarily a screencap). Sometimes tangential things spark the muse :)

I've got to say, as I'll be watching the Granada eps for the first time, I'd much prefer to watch them in their DVD order. I don't know how that links up with any other chronological/published order, though, so it might just be causing unnecessary hassle.

Any kind of chronological order is fine. Given that these are only 60 word fics, i think i could manage to write a few extra for those that repeat :-P

Great work and a big thanks to all the moderators of this blog!

YAAAAAY!!! I'm so glad people voted to continue on for another go-around. (And can you believe that we're almost done? It seems like such a short time ago that we were toying with this crazy idea. What a triumph you've achieved with this comm!)

As for the order, chronological seems like the 'logical' next step to me, too. And I'd love to hear more about the watchalongs for Granada. I've been DVRing them as they play on my local PBS station when I can, and I have a lot of catching up to do!

Now don't forget to take a well-deserved bow, my dear. You so deserve it!

And this is the perfect excuse for finally getting myself a full set of Granada DVDs!

TBH, I've caught myself thinking the same thing: apart from anthing else, jumping between Watsons and between early and later Brett would get more than a bit disorienting.

It doesn't link with any particular order, though SCAN comes first and that is the first of the short stories.

[livejournal.com profile] spacemutineer, what do you think? I'm up for doing it in DVD order.

I've also fallen off the wagon lately, so I'd love a chance to start over. Chronological or alphabetical, either/any way is fine with me...

We're here, we did it, but really, you did it. I'm delighted to have been a part of it, but you've been the heart and soul of this. Take a huge bow, my dear!

Cheers for more mad adventures along the way! Really it's the moderators, your enthusiasm and encouragement, on this site that make it fun and worthwhile. You guys deserve a big 'pat on the back' for your efforts! Looking forward to more :)
