Canon Story: The Gloria Scott

A/N: This is based on Baring-Gould's theory that the "one winter's night" referred to in the opening of the story takes place following Watson's return to Baker Street after the death of his first wife.

Although Watson is back where he belongs, I can see that grief still weighs heavy on his heart. I know, only too well, how those darker emotions can leach one’s surroundings of light and joy. I would see his good humor rekindled; indeed, my own equilibrium depends on it. Perhaps this early case of mine will light that fire again.

YES. I love this one. What's not to love? Baring-Gould theory and Holmes trying to help Watson in his own way (and getting what he needs at the same time). Awesome.

I love the notion here that Sherlock is opening up about his past as a way to engage a grieving Watson. Love it.

This is gorgeous! I love it to a ridiculous degree!

Upon reflection this story can be boiled down to why Holmes gives Watson this story at this time? I like your answer best.

Thank you!

I like your interpretation of Holmes wanting to care for his friend.

"Back where he belongs" is so Holmes. It could be arrogant, but I think it's just him. Him in essence. To be honest, I like this trait in him, it's something one can relate to. Also, this deep consideration for Watson is very heartwarming to see. Just what I needed right now, too. *shoves Watson aside on the sofa*

Oh wow, this is lovely! I personally had imagined Holmes opening up a bit to Watson with this case a lot earlier in their personal timeline, but I like this take on it very, very much.

Because yes, this is very much the way Holmes would think, and it is the perfect gift for his Watson ♥

A neat link and a reasonable motive for Holmes' disclosure.

Very sweet of Holmes, in his way. I love the light/dark play, and the fire images. Really gorgeous.
