Canon Story: The Musgrave Ritual
Title: Promises
Author: [livejournal.com profile] trillsabells
Rating: G

He had promised her treasure. Jewels.

“Diamonds the size of your fist, Rachel,” he had said. “Sparkling just like your eyes.”

But then he had promised her marriage as well, with words just as sweet.

She had promised to make sure the block didn’t slip.

It turned out both of them made promises as worthless as pebbles from the mud.

From jewels to diamonds to blocks to pebbles. What a journey!

Nice, I like it. There's a whole bunch of untrustworthy people in this one.

Ouch.

She had promised to make sure the block didn’t slip.

I like the implication it wasn't EXACTLY deliberate murder -- she just simply didn't prevent the block from slipping when it inevitably did. There's something much more sinister in this way of killing her lover, something colder than a simple crime of passion.

A great piece of writing. I'm seeing how great these ficlets can be despite a small 60 word limit!

Ooh, that's very chilling! I like the imagery of gems to pebbles and the mirror promises. Wonderfully written!
