Canon Story: The Musgrave Ritual
Title: Unmotivated

As Holmes completed his story and retired (leaving the room still as cluttered as a crow's nest), something occurred to me. Holmes was meticulous about each detail of the case -- save one. The murderess's scheme; how and why she killed Bruton remained a mystery. How easy the riddles are to him, but how unlockable the minds of women remain.

Oooo, good point. I hadn't quite put it in that context, that while he had the details of the case, he hadn't quite figured out the motivations. And what's more, doesn't really seem all that bothered by the omission! Well put!

The minds of human beings in general, I'm afraid. But he may not even be after that, as long as the puzzle is solved and things restored to the level of clearness he wishes them to have.

Some puzzles intrigued him; others not so much...
Great thought! Thanks for sharing :)

An interesting thought. Holmes wouldn't have the same priorities and aims on a case as most people would. Nicely penned:-)

Isn't that the truth, particularly to Holmes. Sometimes he seems less interested in motive as well -- the why matters less perhaps than the how.
