Canon Story: A Study in Scarlet
Titles: Hands, Habits and Holmes
Author: [livejournal.com profile] trillsabells
Rating: PG
A/N: I wasn't sure I was going to be able to do this week as I was moving but somehow I managed three. First two are Watson's POV, the last one is Holmes'

It wasn’t until I read the published account of my memoirs with its many references to my friend’s fascinating hands that I realised how greatly I had failed at concealing my attraction.

Holmes reassured me that no one would suppose the author of such a damning description of his nose would be the eager recipient of that ‘delicacy of touch’.

~

When I compare my friend and companion’s current habits – staying up all night playing the violin, case notes flooding every nook and cranny of our living quarters and long days without eating a jot – to those of when we first began to room together I become convinced at some point someone kidnapped my friend and replaced him with a copy.

~

At first I intended to refuse; such an easy case would do nothing to ease the mood I was in. But when one is living with a chap whose frank disbelief of one’s own abilities is so easily dispersed with mere trifles, and the result of such disabuse comes in delightful ejaculations, any opportunity to showcase one’s skills will do.

Hahaha, the joys of flatsharing. Very sweet indeed, especially Holmes' story had me grin from ear to ear.

I had some similar musings as those you have surfaced in your second story. What happened to the flatmate who was initially easy to live with :)

"Holmes was certainly not a difficult man to live with. He was quiet in his ways, and his habits were regular. It was rare for him to be up after ten at night, and he had invariably breakfasted and gone out before I rose in the morning."

Enjoyed all three! Thanks for sharing :)

The first and second are absolutely hilarious, wonderful. I love the words you employ in this last one, it reads very richly, if that makes sense.

Oh, this are all great. I love the first one - he really is pretty bitchy about his nose, right?

Also noticed your use of 'ejaculation'. Nice.

1) grin. It is alright, Watson, we know the feeling, we like his hands too. And you were trained as a surgeon, it would be in your nature to notice.

2) ha! I think Holmes was trying to hold onto Watson with good behavior at first. Once he understood his mental and physical limits and had his trust, he was free to be more himself.

3) oh, Holmes, you show off. But hey, I bet you had fun setting Lestrade and Gregson against each other, too...

A very nice trio here!

All three are very, very, very nice. And I love the middle one and how Holmes in this story hasn't gotten quite so quirkily Holmes here which I think is true enough for just moving in with somebody, but seriously lovely, all!

Loved Holmes doing a bit of showing off, as well.

Ah, but does Watson secretly prefer the up-at-all-hours, violin-playing, narcissistic flatmate, or the polite, courteous, reserved, regular-hours version he started with? That's the question... ;-)

I particularly like #2 -- things clearly changed over a few years....

All of these are lovely. But I have a special fondness for the first, both for Watson's own worried realization and Holmes' amusing reassurance. Adorable.

Aw, that first one is sweet and yet also has that little touch of Holmes' sarcasm. And I totally agree about the second - Holmes' habits really went downhill over the time they roomed together!

Oh, and nice use of "ejaculation"... ;-)
