Canon: The Adventure of the Speckled Band (SPEC)
Title: An Intriguing Mystery
Author: ennui_enigma
POV: Watson and Holmes
A/N: “ I had no keener pleasure than in following Holmes in his professional investigations, and in admiring the rapid deductions, as swift as intuitions, and yet always founded on a logical basis with which he unraveled the problems which were submitted to him.”
In STUD Watson states that he was fascinated by the mystery surrounding his flat mate. I like to imagine Holmes found his friend equally challenging to explore.

Scoundrel to some; saviour to others. A remark about scruples and a grasp of my wrist whisper to depths of his character that I have yet to discover. Intriguing!

Waking up early; staying up late; his devotion confounds reason. Despite danger, he remains on guard. His loyalty fascinates me. There are depths to him that I’ve yet to fathom. Intriguing!

Couldn't resist! Overactive imagination today. POV: Waton.

Mary wondered why I never wore that spotted necktie or my yellow-brown argyle sweater again. Although she said she wanted the black and white tourmaline necklace for our anniversary, I bought her pearls instead. She was delighted but didn’t understand. I couldn’t bear to admit that the other gave me nightmares of a fiendish snake and an evil bilious-eyed monster.

The symmetry and rhythm in this piece make me imagine them being lines uttered on stage, by a choir even, spoken or sung. Intriguing!

Watson being afraid of snaky patterns for the rest of his life is an awesome idea. *giggles*

Nicely done, the first has a very poetic ring to it; the second is a great illustration of lingering unease:-)

The paired set in a 60 is fantastic. I love the idea of it and especially your Holmes, amazed by having a friend.

I really like both of these! I love the idea of the two of them having similar-type intriguing thoughts about the other, especially at this early stage. And I can bet that Watson would want to avoid anything that reminded him of that snake...

I like both of these especially the contrast in both pieces. Young bachelor Watson eager to understand every bit of his eccentric friend.

to Married Watson a little more gun shy about the more dangerous possibilities of his work with Holmes.
