Having readied myself to take action, I could not help but smile at Holmes’s remarks. Crocuses, indeed! His subsequent demonstration was clear proof that my companion had no need to give any more weight to the doctor’s threats than that which those crocuses represented.

Watson and I enjoyed a good chuckle after Roylott’s departure; my favourite memory of the case.

I love that part in the original, especially when it's all about vegetables. ;P It's nice to imagine them chuckling about it, with a case that dark later-on.

Thanks. I seem to be even more about humour and less about angst in these little pieces than I am in regular-sized fic. I like to have happy snapshots, I guess.

I'm a little surprised to find this is a unanimous favorite. Of course, I can't even really express why I've always been attached to this story, so I shouldn't be surprised at all.

I'm not at all surprised that a cheerful moment shared between the gentlemen of Baker Street is a fond memory of many readers. :-)

Thank you! I'd actually written the thing and then thought, 'this is two completely different moments in time' because Holmes wouldn't have thought much of that moment I think - until he saw it in retrospect and processed not only his actions but registered the fact that Watson would have been poised for action - and then they ended up having a giggle over the prospective crime scene...
