Canon Story: The Resident Patient
Title: Parallel Paths
Author: [livejournal.com profile] bwblack
Rating: G
Characters: Watson

Watson couldn't help but notice certain similarities. Their client was another fine physician forced to subsist on limited funds.

A mysterious stranger offered shared accommodation, comfortable rooms, a new career. A new life.

A former bank robber who took solitary walks before dinner? Or a consulting detective with whom Watson could ramble through London?

He owed Stamford an immeasurable debt.

That is worrying indeed, especially with someone as kindhearted as Watson. Good thing he found another lost soul just like himself.

True, true. I've done it a couple times, didn't work out. No Watson among the many. =P

Ohhhhhh...there but for the grace of God, surely. Thank goodness for Stamford indeed.

Excellent comparison; I hadn't thought of it in this way!

Nicely compared! I'm glad Watson ended up with Holmes even if it wasn't quite as lucrative a proposition at first :-)

A very interesting comparison, Watson must have been extremely grateful that Stamford suggested a suitable person to share with. Hopefully he would remember this on days when Holmes was proving a trial.

Ooh! That's a really neat take on this.

Superb comparison. Watson is a lucky man, indeed.

Of course, in the end, Trevelyan didn't do too badly either, in a way. His path was a bit more... traumatic, shall we say, but he finishes the story with a flourishing Brook Street practice he now owns 100%. He's distinctly lacking in genius companionship and those marvelous rambles through London, however.

The parallels are both intriguing and troubling - definitely an interesting point to take up in a 60. Wonderful!

Wonderfully drawn comparison here. As we all know, a ramble through London with Holmes is worth more than a flourishing practice. Beautifully done.
