DANC -- The Adventure of the Dancing Men

The parallels were too exact to ignore. One party, close-mouthed, keeping the other in the dark even as danger loomed. The other party, devoted to a fault, determined to protect the other, refusing to question or break his word.

And now the terrible news: the trusting party was dead.

Holmes resolved then and there to be more forthcoming with Watson.

Holmes is such a secretive, cryptic man, isn't he? I adore the way he recognizes that it's possible to take that too far and that he needs to be better for Watson. Lovely, as per usual!

Thank you so much! Holmes never really does overcome his secretive streak, at least not in canon. He gets better at times, and then there are the notable backslides *coughHiatuscough*. But I do like to think that he realized secrecy can be taken too far, and that's why he slooooowly started telling Watson about various things - like his family history, the existence of Mycroft, oh by the way bring your revolver... ;-)
