Canon Story: The Noble Bachelor
Title: A Different Outcome?
Author: [livejournal.com profile] bwblack
Rating: G
Characters: Watson
AN: I find it odd that so close to his own wedding, Watson didn't express some nerves about his own wedding.

A day that promised happiness and celebration had turned into such sorrowful scandal.    Hopes for the future dashed instantly.    Watson thought, at the time, it was the worst possible outcome.

How naive!  As his once brilliant, beautiful bride lay pale, cold, pained, dying in their bed, he could only wish she'd run off to find happiness and health with another.

I've always been a bit miffed about the complete lack of explanation as to what happened to Mary, and the only good excuse, at least one that doesn't make me want to practise some recreational scolding on Sir Arthur Conan Doyle, is that Watson was too grief-stricken to type any detail. Your story makes me wonder indeed if she'd met a different fate with a different man, in a different land.

An interesting comparison, but such a sad picture.

Heavens, this one hurts. Does Watson blame himself for her death? The implications of that are fairly disturbing. Excellent work.
