Canon: The Reigate Puzzle/Squires (REIG)
Title: Inspiration
Author: ennui_enigma
Rating: G
POV: Colonel Hayter
A/N: Prompted by the following sentence. Hayter was a fine old soldier who had seen much of the world, and he soon found, as I had expected, that Holmes and he had much in common.

What a curious fellow Watson’s found. He called himself a 'stormy petrel'. The inspector muttered that his methods were mad. Yet he managed to deduce the solution to William’s murder from a peculiar theft, scrap of paper, and the p’s and g’s of a note. Fascinating! My life in the country is dull. It’s time I travel the world again.

One of the first Holmesians, here he is! :D This is a great idea, and I think it may serve as a source of inspiration itself. Sweet!

Let’s hope he doesn’t decide to go to Lyon.

A neat expansion on a minor character. Opens up all sorts of possibilities:-)

It's great to get a peek into the mind of Hayter, who seemed like an all-around good guy. He is here too, on his way to see the world.

I like seeing Holmes from the perspective of minor characters, and this is a lovely viewpoint.

Thank you. That's very kind of you to say so.

Nicely done! I can imagine that Hayter was a bit puzzled by the activity Holmes brought, but was game for it all.
