Canon Story: A Study in Scarlet
Title: What Dr Watson Should Have Written
Author: Mary Sutherland
Rating: PG13

"The only point in the case which deserved mention was the curious analytical reasoning from effects to causes, by which I succeeded in unravelling it." – Sherlock Holmes in "The Sign of Four" on Dr Watson's "A Study in Scarlet"

Jefferson Hope double murder: Narrow gauge marks, hence cab. Footmarks show two men quarrelling. Stride length matches height of writing, nose-bleed implies florid face. Nail scratches, Trichonopoly ash. Fraktur A indicates "Rache" a bluff. Forcible poisoning deduced from victim's face (note: two pills, not one). Methodical revenge by jarvey, tracked down by Street Arabs.

Result: testimonial for Lestrade and Gregson.

“You promised Mrs Hudson.”

Holmes sighed, opened the Bible, and began. “Friends, we mourn the passing of Rover...”
