Author's Notes: It struck me that this is the fifth story, but the second time that Holmes wakes Watson, and Watson doesn’t seem overly perturbed by his presence. Watson’s lack of concern for his own privacy made me wonder. Feel free to read as slash or not.

The first time I awoke with Holmes's eyes fixed on me, I was startled and shy. The second time, annoyed and gruff.

Now, I do not mind the sentinel who watches while I slumber. Perhaps because his eyes are the last I see at night, it is fitting that they are also the first I see at break of day.

I watch Watson's lips thin and forehead crease as he thinks of Beecher, wars and wounds. His gaze says he'd rather be in Portsmouth but his sigh reveals he hasn't funds for the holiday. I astonish by reading his musings in his moustache's twitch only to distract myself; to keep from supposing why Lestrade hasn't required me in some time.

Hello, readers and writers! Welcome to the weekend and the intro to this coming week's canon Sherlock Holmes story, The Noble Bachelor. A bride vanishes just after her wedding and her aristocratic husband seeks the best help in the land.

We're lucky to have a Granada episode this week too. In fact, this is one of the full movie-length Granada episodes -- expect some differences from the original story! You can watch "The Eligible Bachelor" on YouTube for free, or on Netflix, Amazon Video, and DVD, then come back Sunday for some telly chat.

Here are your completely optional prompts for NOBL. Feel free to use one, both, or neither.

Optional Prompt #1: "claim"

Optional Prompt #2: Make a comparison in your 60, one thing or idea to another.

A/N: I was really struck by the fact that this is the second time in as many stories that Watson wakes to find Holmes at his bedside...

This was the second time Holmes had barged into my bedroom in the early hours. Not that I begrudged him the liberty, but… perhaps there was a more practical solution.

To my pleasant surprise, Holmes was amenable. Now, if he desires to wake me, he need only reach his arm across the bed. And I fancy that he sleeps better.
