This week we’re having a look at the first seven chapters of The Hound of the Baskervilles. I’ve typed up a few thoughts to get the discussion going!

Author's Notes: “I find that a concentrated atmosphere helps a concentration of thought. I have not pushed it to the length of getting into a box to think, but that is the logical outcome of my convictions.”

It was purely accidental, my locking Holmes in Mrs. Hudson’s broom cupboard. However, he wasn’t terribly forgiving when I released him six hours later.

“Did it help?” I asked, attempting to make light of it. “You said that a concentrated atmosphere assists your thinking.”

Holmes advanced slowly with a murderous expression.

“It did give me one or two ideas, yes…”

Sir Henry Baskerville:
When he wants to do a task, he will.
Nothing will keep him from his ancestral home.
Even if the devil does let his hound roam…

Title: The Baskerville Demon
Author: [livejournal.com profile] vaysh
Rating: PG
Words: 60
Author's Notes: Holmes would not like this. :) Supernatural AU, of sorts.

The maiden's pure soul was beyond the demon's reach. He watched it rise towards Heaven, then turned to rip out the mortal's throat. Here was his prize, pledged to his Master mere hours ago. As life left Hugo Baskerville, his soul, lost in darkness, was set free. A slight nudge was all it needed to follow the demon into Hell.

I was surprised Miss Stapleton did not want her brother to know she wished Sir Henry to leave the Hall.  Although she had said he was very anxious that the Hall be inhabited, I could not understand why she should keep her own views quiet.  This seemed to me to be the very thing that siblings would regularly argue about.
