Adventuress: “A woman who seeks and enjoys adventure.”

I did not seek a royal marriage. Neither, in truth, was scandal my intended goal.

A monarch chooses his identity: which false name and velvet mask.

A common woman has no choice; she must wear forever the mask he gives her.

Adventuress: “One who seeks social or financial advancement through unscrupulous means.”

Author's Notes:

* waves "Hello" from behind the aspidistra of lurkertude *

'Wedlock suits you,' he remarked. 'I think, Watson, that you have put on seven
and a half pounds since I saw you.'

Dr Watson looked well. The hard lines of his features were eased, the pervasive hint of sorrow gone from his eyes. Married life suited him. Mrs Watson had been able to accomplish more in one year than landlady and fellow-lodger had in the previous five. They had taught him to live again, but Mary gave him a reason to thrive.

More Author's Notes:

A little flexibility in the chronology is required.

This Sunday, 15th February, we'll be posting our 60 word ficlets for The Red-headed League.

Once again, Watson calls round to Baker Street, and finds Holmes in conversation with a Mr. Jabez Wilson. The "commonplace British tradesman" has one distinctive feature - his bright red hair. He also has a most curious tale to tell...

If you haven't tried 60 for 60 before, full information - including our schedule - can be found on our profile. But in essence: you read ACD's story and then you write a 60 word story inspired by it! You don't have to post a story every week - just join in whenever you feel like it.

Each Sunday we will also have our weekly discussion post and Mrs. Hudson's Poetry Page. Any poems inspired by this week’s story can be left as a comment on her post.

You can choose one activity, or have a go at everything. Or just come along and read the 60s! (And have a chat in the comments ^^) All options are absolutely fine.

Hope to see you on Sunday ^^
