Welcome once again to my poetry page!

I hope each week you will read Dr. Watson’s delightful narrative and then be inspired to write a poem related to it in some way. All forms of poetry are permitted, and further down the page there is a selection you might like to consider using over the coming weeks.

This week my featured form is blackout poetry.

Author's Notes: Trevor was the only man I knew, and that only through the accident of his bull terrier freezing on to my ankle one morning as I went down to chapel.

Victor Trevor was visiting London. “Remember how we met..?”

Holmes winced. “Vividly.” He indicated the photograph Trevor was holding. “Delighted to see you’ve gained many friends since.”

“That’s Shalaby. Met him when my horse trampled him. Henderson—knocked him unconscious. And Bartle, my dearest friend.” Trevor smiled fondly. “Set fire to him with my pipe.”

“Well,” said Holmes. “That’s... excellent.”

Summary: Sherlock Holmes has a reputation among more than human beings.

***

“Did I ever tell you lot about the time I laid one on Sherlock Holmes?”

The other dogs in the night-time alley clustered round – all except for one dog who did nothing.

“Aye,” said the bull-terrier, “even then I smelled ‘dog-killer’ on ‘im. Went at ‘im! Boss whipped me something fierce afore I let go. Laid ‘im out for weeks.”

Title: The Lutine Bell (as featured in the Marylebone Illustrated)
Author:thesmallhobbit
Rating: G

It is with great sorrow we have to report once again the Lutine bell has been rung by Lloyd’s at the Royal Exchange, with news another ship is well overdue and therefore may be presumed to have sunk.  Some of our older readers may recall the salvaging of the bell in 1859, with the subsequent institution of this sad tradition.
