A/N: Inspired by optional prompt 1: BLUE is set right after Christmas. How did our boys spend their holiday?


Mrs. Hudson's pudding was met with eyes like saucers, though laughter rang through the room when Cooper found the sixpence. Miss Long found the wishbone, her brother the thimble, and Master Turner the anchor.

When they were warm, full, and wrapped in new coats, Holmes placed a bag in the eldest's hand.

“Happy Christmas, Wiggins.”

“You too, sir.”

It can't have been an easy thing to be poor in Victorian London, so I enjoyed giving the Irregulars a bit of a Christmas treat. If I'd had two more words to spare, I'd have made sure Holmes gave them shoes.

Thank you so much! It was a nice bit of kismet (or brilliant strategy) to do The Blue Carbuncle on the unofficial start of the holiday season. Since BLUE was the first Holmes story I ever read (I think I was eleven or twelve), I seem to have indulged in a bit of nostalgia. :D

Oh squee! Thank you so much for your kind words! And thank you for the welcome- I've been following the comm for months, but yes, this is my first attempt at a 60-fic. I came so close during the Red-Headed League (another favorite, as I'm married to someone with a proper head of red hair), but the holiday weekend gave me time to contemplate what I love about the BLUE, and the feeling of goodwill that runs throughout is palpable, so I had to add a bit of cheer to Holmes's holiday. Thanks again for the warm welcome! I will definitely be posting when real life acquiesces!
