Canon story: The Yellow Face - but not really
Sorry - this was completely based upon the prompt presented in the discussion post of telling a love story in 60 words. I know the story well - I did my best to adapt it in my own story once upon a time, but this snippet does not actually reference that work at all.

A love story in 60 words - all of which are Sir Arthur Conan Doyle's.

*****

You have been in Afghanistan, I perceive.

I thought that I had better bring you together.

You wish me to come?

I know that there are seventeen steps.

We must have a cab.

I came to find a friend.

The only problem we have still to solve is how to while away these bleak autumnal evenings.

It's a mere scratch.

That's a very sweet story, and a very clever idea! Love comes in so many ways that I usually struggle to separate it from friendship, and I think every friendship is a love story of its own. Thanks for sharing the goodness!

This is a fascinating little document! I love what you've done with the prompt. Selecting these individual pieces of original dialogue, you've made an elegant image of the arc of their relationship. So nifty!
