HOUN, Part 2: Spoken in Haste
"Fool that I was to hold my hand. And you, Watson, see what comes of abandoning your charge!"
I repented my words instantly. Watson turned white and flinched back as if I had physically struck him across the face.
Yet apologies had to wait. Sir Henry might yet live and require our aid. But if the worst had happened, it was I, not Watson, who was ultimately responsible – and I must make sure that my friend knew this.
"Oh Holmes, I shall never forgive myself for having left him to his fate."
"I am more to blame than you, Watson. In order to have my case well rounded and complete, I have thrown away the life of my client. "
