Country Landscapes

On the train to Hampshire, we passed though lovely countryside, with picturesque farmsteads dotting the rolling landscape. Whilst I admired the beauty of it, Holmes took a darker view, talking instead of the cruelties and secret wickedness that might flourish there unchecked.

I could not help but wonder if his words were fancy or if he knew whereof he spoke.

Nice one! I wondered about that, too. :-)

I hadn't really thought about what led to Holmes' sweeping statement before.

Thought provoking:-)

Good question! It sure seems like there's a story (or hundreds) behind Holmes' vehement denunciation of country living. A family story? Old cases? Lots of possibilities to mine there...
