A/N: So… um… I originally set out to write about Alice finding out about Violet via a letter from Mr Fowler and her reaction to that but then I kept thinking about how if Mr Fowler was writing her letters she’d find them really important and I got a bit carried away.


She never so much read his letters as she devoured them, imbuing every word until it was as if the ink had been carved into her skin instead of onto the paper. They were her lifeline and Mrs Toller was her Hermes; messenger from the gods. Afterwards she would still cling to them as holy relics from a bygone age.

This is a lovely idea. I can easily see Alice keeping the letters with her and looking at them frequently.
