That Doctor Watson, he's a good bloke. Spoke up for me in that nasty business with Beddington , he did. Said how me coming to Mr. Holmes was what put the Yard on the track to solving the crime.
He and Mr. Holmes got Mawson's to take me back. It's not 500 quid a year, but it'll do, right enough.

Glad to hear Pycroft got his job back, because although he's a bit of a dope, he never meant to hurt anyone, and only took the job because how do you turn down six months salary upfront?

Thanks! That's bothered me too, in more than one story. ACD has a tendency to leave the minor characters to their fates once the crime is solved.
