Rating: PG
Character(s): Sherlock Holmes, Doctor John Watson
Summary: Holmes asks Watson to join him on a little trip to the country.
Warnings: Very mild spoilers for BRUC.
Word Count: 60 for the regular, plus an extended-play version (100 words), plus quotes from the original story in italics.
Author's Notes: 60 words of my own inspired by one of the canon stories.
Disclaimer: I don't own them.
BRUC – Just Rewards
“If time hangs heavy get foolscap and a pen, and begin your narrative of how we saved the State.”
It was only when town gave way to country outside our carriage windows that my Watson suspected our destination. “Holmes!”
“Be easy, Watson. A certain dear lady merely wishes to hear the true story from the scribe’s own lips. And I know you would never disoblige a woman.”
We came away with trinkets – and secretly-bestowed honours: Sir Sherlock and Sir John.
Extended-play version (100 words):
“If time hangs heavy get foolscap and a pen, and begin your narrative of how we saved the State.”
My Watson brought his manuscript account of the case (not the pablum destined for the public) without questioning.
It was only when town gave way to country outside our carriage windows that he suspected the truth. “Holmes!”
“Be easy, Watson. A certain dear lady merely wishes to hear the true story from the scribe’s own lips. And I know you would never disoblige a woman.”
I came away with a tie-pin; Watson with a watch-fob – and we both received the accolade, although in secret. Just as well; ‘Sir Sherlock’ is not a form of address I ever wish to hear.
