DANC – Misstep

Two days since I broke the cipher.

I should have traveled immediately to Ridling Thorpe Manor, or better yet, sent messages demanding Hilton Cubit come up to town with his wife. They would have been safe in London while I waited for word.

I waited for complete data, to know all the facts.

Doing so cost my client his life.

Exactly this. Holmes likes to tie his cases up with a little bow, bringing everything together in a pretty package he can present with a bit of showmanship. But lives were on the line here, and waiting to get all of his clues neatly lined up lead directly to disaster. I'd like to hope he at least learned something from the Cubitts' loss, as you suggest here.
