That was an interesting night.  There’s been a variety of people leave the house, often distressed, but never in this way: two middle-aged gentlemen who really should be too old for such antics, climbing hurriedly over the wall.  They should have shown the decorum of the lady who left a little earlier.  Obviously ne’er-do-wells because the police are here now.

Thank you. So long as she behaved calmly no-one would look twice at her. Whereas the hurried escape over the wall would have been noticed by all and sundry.

You raise an interesting point: how DID the lady get out? Did she have to climb the fence? Was she able to go through a gate easily since the alarm had only just been raised? Now I'm curious.

She entered unobtrusively so I imagine she left the same way. No doubt she would have expected the alarm to be raised, so would have been as quick as she could, either leaving through the gate or hiding behind the bushes looking for an exit. So long as she maintained her calm she probably wouldn't have attracted a second glance and once Holmes and Watson provided the ideal distraction she would have made good her escape.
