I had just stepped out of the room for a moment when “Watson,” was murmured into my ear. I barely stopped myself from startling, I had not heard Holmes’ approach at all.
“Watson,” he said again, “I have need of you.”
“There is a police inspector just one wall away, Holmes.”
“I know,” he said. “But I’d rather have you.”
