ENGR -- The Adventure of the Engineer’s Thumb

The Paddington Station guard was hardly the only person assiduously promoting the good doctor’s welfare. He was merely the most obvious about it, so obvious that my Watson actually noticed. Watson walked the streets of London wrapped in a cloak of concern, each individual thread spun from his own good deeds.

My modest Watson never realized it, but I knew.

An excellent doctor, yes, but also an excellent person. He strikes me as the kind of character who never really realizes how many lives he touches for the better, because in his mind, that's just "the way to behave."

Thanks! I figured if anyone recognized the power Watson's good nature and character had on the world around him, Holmes would. After all, he too was a primary beneficiary.
