Canon Story: The Adventure of the Priory School
Title: The Duke chooses

A/N: One drabble and one sixty both on the same theme (hence the one title).
“May I say goodbye to Arthur?”
She didn’t look at him but instead kept her eyes on the carriage where her baggage was being packed.
“I think it would for the best if you didn’t,” he said.
There was no surprise on her face, just deep resentment as she turned to glare back at the house. He followed her gaze and saw James in one of the windows, smiling down at his achievement.
“That man will be the death of you,” she said, mildly as if talking of the weather. “And of Arthur. You know. That’s why you don’t listen.”

“Father!”
Not since he had first learnt to walk had his son thrown himself so fully into his arms. But he couldn’t bring himself to scold for the impropriety, just kissed his head and said.
“Arthur, my son, you are well. Praise God you are well.”
“You found me,” Arthur sobbed into his chest. “We can go home.”
Ah.
