Resting a hand on her forehead he prayed that God in all His mercy would keep her and give her spirit the rest he could not afford to give her body.

It's a positive thing to be able to see Sir Robert's grief for his sister. He's a selfish and unpleasant man, but I think he does love her.

He's portrayed as a total cad, but apparently he improves with age, so this might be the start.
