He was getting old, that was the problem. His joints creaked, he was winded from long walks and just getting out of his fireside armchair in the evening was becoming an adventure. There was only so much a Turkish bath could do. Sooner or later he was going to have to slow down. The question was, how to tell Holmes?

Quite a sad reflection, but well penned.

Thinking about Holmes and Watson getting older always makes me feel so sad ^^" I do love your line though: just getting out of his fireside armchair in the evening was becoming an adventure ^^

One of the things I find fascinating about the chronicles of Holmes and Watson is that we get to see them over the course of multiple decades of their lives. Time moves on and things change for them. Age creeps up and makes a difference.

I love that you explore that idea here. I am so curious about how Watson's conversation with Holmes about slowing down went.

Poor Watson. You do a great job of conveying his growing awareness that while his spirit is still willing, his body just isn't always up for the task anymore.
