Hello, friends! Welcome back. ALERT: Due to a scheduling error made long ago and only just caught, we missed The Blanched Soldier when we were supposed to read it, before last week's The Three Gables. Many apologies for the mix-up, very embarrassing. To make up for this oversight, I've moved it to this week to keep the chronology as accurate to Baring-Gould as possible.

So for this Sunday's Sherlock Holmes canon reading and writing pleasure, we'll be taking on The Blanched Soldier. A face in a window sparks recognition as well as horror, and Sherlock Holmes tells his own story for the first time.

There is no Granada episode for this story, unfortunately.

Here are your completely optional prompts for BLAN. Feel free to use one, both, or neither.

Optional prompt #1: Holmes as a narrator

Optional prompt #2: "selfish"

Haven't joined us for 60 for 60 before? We'd love to have you jump in too! Everyone is welcome. You can learn more here (including the schedule), but the basics are easy: read the story, then write a 60 word ficlet inspired by it. That's it! It's fun, it's quick and you'll love reading both the wonderful classic canon and the terrific variety of fic we all come up with. Come have fun with us! Thanks, see you Sunday!

Phew! Been on holiday and out of internet contact for the last week so I went ahead and read and wrote a BLAN story. Then when I got to an internet cafe and tried to post discovered I'd read the wrong story! Thankfully holidaying on a remote island left me plenty of time to write my Three Gables story for today and now I can relax knowing I've got sunday's story in the bag.

(The Mazarin stone on the other hand is determined to defeat me. It is... not that great a story (sorry ACD))
