The Past and the Future of Sherlock60
Oct. 27th, 2013 02:12 amAfter another 60 weeks (well, 63 with the extra weeks to split the novels), this second round of reading through the Sherlock Holmes canon stories has come to an end, as all good things must.
sherlock60 started small. In the spring of 2011,
methylviolet10b and I were chatting by email about the Sherlock Holmes canon and we had a fun little idea to write something small for every story. Before we knew it, we had a plan. Sixty words for sixty stories. The last Sunday in June of 2011 was the first week ever for 60 for 60, and happily and surprisingly (to me anyway), we found that other people wanted to join us on our quest.
It was obvious quickly that a comm made more sense for our growing group and our readers, so in August 2011,
sherlock60 was born. We finished our first round through the canon in 2012 and kept right on running, which brings us today, the last case in our second canon readthrough, two and a half years after we began.
Where do we go from here? Simply, our comm continues, although perhaps in a slightly different form. We have an amazing community of wonderful, clever, and kind writers and readers, and an unmatched collection of hundreds of ACD canon ficlets. None of that is going away, and fiction is going to continue to be posted. Catch up posts have always been welcome anytime, and
scfrankles and
thesmallhobbit are planning on posting theirs on a schedule, starting with The Abbey Grange on Sunday, November 3rd. More info and details on that will be coming, but remember, fic posts and discussions are welcome at any time. Let's keep the canon love going!
On a personal note, it has been my absolute pleasure to mod this incredible community of writers and readers. We have the most creative, clever, and friendly members, and every week with you all for the last two and a half years has been a joy as we explored these remarkable stories and characters together through our own fiction. This has been something I will always hold dear in my heart. Thank you to everyone who ever reads, writes, or comments with us -- you are what make our community outstanding, an encouraging and fun place to read and write and imagine. One person deserves thanks above everyone else:
methylviolet10b. From the moment our silly little ideas merged into the original 60 for 60 project, she has been here making it possible, always reliable, and always so personally generous. I still have catchups left to do for this readthrough, but our
methylviolet10b is finishing up her second full round this week. She is a workhorse and a powerhouse and none of this would ever have been possible without her. Give her her well-deserved round of applause!
Thank you to everyone! I can't wait to see what's in store next for our fabulous community. Sherlockian love continues on.

Date: 2013-10-27 10:55 am (UTC)Thank you ever so much for this wonderful community. It has been a home from home for me for almost two years now, and I am proud and happy to have indeed finished two full rounds of stories where I wasn't able to bring down a single word before. Thank you for this wonderful gift, the kind and friendly atmosphere, as well as the most beautiful way I can imagine to dive into canon.
Happy reading, happy writing, and may our paths cross often no matter what!

Date: 2013-10-27 05:19 pm (UTC)This comm gave me the courage to put up my first ever published work and I'm so happy about that! RL has kind of taken me over just lately, but I also plan to continue. I'd love to do the full circle of stories and novels.

Date: 2013-10-27 10:03 pm (UTC)Thank you both for all your encouragement, and for enabling me to introduce both the Ocelot and Mouselet, neither of whom would ever have had the opportunity to see the light of day without this marvellous comm.
And thanking you too for being gracious enough to pass the baton on to myself and scfrankles to keep things going. We do indeed look forward to welcome all and surround to start or continue participating, whether as writers or readers.
