[identity profile] spacemutineer.livejournal.com posting in [community profile] sherlock60
After another 60 weeks (well, 63 with the extra weeks to split the novels), this second round of reading through the Sherlock Holmes canon stories has come to an end, as all good things must.

[livejournal.com profile] sherlock60 started small. In the spring of 2011, [livejournal.com profile] methylviolet10b and I were chatting by email about the Sherlock Holmes canon and we had a fun little idea to write something small for every story. Before we knew it, we had a plan. Sixty words for sixty stories. The last Sunday in June of 2011 was the first week ever for 60 for 60, and happily and surprisingly (to me anyway), we found that other people wanted to join us on our quest.

It was obvious quickly that a comm made more sense for our growing group and our readers, so in August 2011, [livejournal.com profile] sherlock60 was born. We finished our first round through the canon in 2012 and kept right on running, which brings us today, the last case in our second canon readthrough, two and a half years after we began.

Where do we go from here? Simply, our comm continues, although perhaps in a slightly different form. We have an amazing community of wonderful, clever, and kind writers and readers, and an unmatched collection of hundreds of ACD canon ficlets. None of that is going away, and fiction is going to continue to be posted. Catch up posts have always been welcome anytime, and [livejournal.com profile] scfrankles and [livejournal.com profile] thesmallhobbit are planning on posting theirs on a schedule, starting with The Abbey Grange on Sunday, November 3rd. More info and details on that will be coming, but remember, fic posts and discussions are welcome at any time. Let's keep the canon love going!

On a personal note, it has been my absolute pleasure to mod this incredible community of writers and readers. We have the most creative, clever, and friendly members, and every week with you all for the last two and a half years has been a joy as we explored these remarkable stories and characters together through our own fiction. This has been something I will always hold dear in my heart. Thank you to everyone who ever reads, writes, or comments with us -- you are what make our community outstanding, an encouraging and fun place to read and write and imagine. One person deserves thanks above everyone else: [livejournal.com profile] methylviolet10b. From the moment our silly little ideas merged into the original 60 for 60 project, she has been here making it possible, always reliable, and always so personally generous. I still have catchups left to do for this readthrough, but our [livejournal.com profile] methylviolet10b is finishing up her second full round this week. She is a workhorse and a powerhouse and none of this would ever have been possible without her. Give her her well-deserved round of applause!

Thank you to everyone! I can't wait to see what's in store next for our fabulous community. Sherlockian love continues on.

I may not continue this for a while, as the format I'm thinking about requires preparation I don't have time for right now, but I am fully counting on returning with something crossoverish at some point in the future.

Thank you ever so much for this wonderful community. It has been a home from home for me for almost two years now, and I am proud and happy to have indeed finished two full rounds of stories where I wasn't able to bring down a single word before. Thank you for this wonderful gift, the kind and friendly atmosphere, as well as the most beautiful way I can imagine to dive into canon.

Happy reading, happy writing, and may our paths cross often no matter what!

I'm glad to hear that this wonderful comm will continue, especially since I was late to the party (as usual).
This comm gave me the courage to put up my first ever published work and I'm so happy about that! RL has kind of taken me over just lately, but I also plan to continue. I'd love to do the full circle of stories and novels.

Many congratulations to spacemutineer and methylviolet10b for a wonderful achievement, and thank you to the both of you for allowing thesmallhobbit and myself to keep going. I suppose things will be a little more informal than before, but we're hoping as many people as possible will continue with us - even if it's just dropping in occasionally ^^

(Btw, it's Sunday, November the 3rd ^^") (Feel free to give me a virtual slap around the chops.)

Echoing all the thanks above to both you and to Violet. It's been great fun reading all the stories, and not just the more popular ones and like others I am grateful for the chance to explore them properly.

Thank you both for all your encouragement, and for enabling me to introduce both the Ocelot and Mouselet, neither of whom would ever have had the opportunity to see the light of day without this marvellous comm.

And thanking you too for being gracious enough to pass the baton on to myself and scfrankles to keep things going. We do indeed look forward to welcome all and surround to start or continue participating, whether as writers or readers.

My dear [livejournal.com profile] spacemutineer, as Sherlock Holmes himself might tell you: ideas are commonplace; it's the execution of them that is hard. And while I might have contributed to the idea and the occasional bit of help, it's you who made this comm happen and built what was a trivial little idea into the wonderful community it is today. It was your organization, your hard work, your brilliant idea to include Granada watchalongs and Baring-Gould chronology, the lot of it. It was my honor to help, but it's really you who deserves all the praise. Thank you so much for this, and for all the wonderful things you do!

Did several weeks at the begining of this go through and then real life happened then I was woefully behind. If people are posting again, I would love to play along.

It was particularly fun while I was an active participant and always good fun to see what came about even when I hadn't recently read the canon story.
