This Sunday, 2nd Feb, we'll be posting our 60 word ficlets for The Reigate Squires (AKA The Reigate Puzzle). In this story we’re away from Baker Street, with a convalescing Holmes and a protective Watson. There’s a curious burglary and then a dastardly murder. Holmes makes a sudden recovery…
If you haven't tried 60 for 60 before, full information - including our schedule - can be found on our profile. But in essence: you read ACD's story and then you write a 60 word story based on it! You don't have to post a story every week - just join in whenever you feel like it.
And from this Sunday we’re adding an extra challenge: pick a character from ACD’s story and write a clerihew about them. The clerihew is a short, humorous rhyme, invented by Edmund Clerihew Bentley. It’s four lines long, made up of two couplets, the first line is the name of the person you’re writing about (or at least must have the name at the end), and the whole thing is whimsical and biographical in nature.
As an example, here’s one of mine:
Sherlock Holmes
Has superb chromosomes.
But he won’t pass on his mind.
He’s not the marrying kind.
You can choose to write a 60 and a clerihew, or you can do one or the other. (If you choose to do both, I think it’s best to post them separately. I’ve added further information to the profile.) Or you can just take part in the weekly discussion. All options are absolutely fine!
Hope to see you on Sunday ^^
