Telegrams and newspapers covered every flat surface in the darkened room. Holmes lay fully dressed on the bed.

"My dear Watson," he whispered, "you came."

I had been on trains and boats forever; I had lost precious hours locating the Dulong Hotel. But the spark lighting Holmes' eyes made it seem like nothing. I was going to take him home.

That's so touching. Watson does pretty much skim over this in his account, but it's telling that he drops everything to go and get Holmes. And that Holmes (presumably) asks for Watson to be contacted in the first place. You've expanded what Watson only hints at.
