Holmes might bemoan the absence of Professor Moriarty, but I was relieved that he was no longer with us.  It was not long since we had escaped from the Friesland, where the crew, on discovering us investigating that vessel, had sought to incarcerate us in the hold when they scuppered the ship.  A few quieter months would not go amiss.

I'm with Watson, I really am. I love the twist your title gives: you expect it to be said with a smile, but in this case it's a plaintive plea for a dull moment.

I think there are times when Watson would love to have a bit of peace and quiet, however much he enjoys what they do.

Poor Watson. His hiatus life had been sad and lonely. Now, with Holmes' remarkable reappearance, his life is full of danger and intrigue... but at least it is not boring!

Actually, even though the danger is not levelled at the dynamic duo this time, they do feel the pressure to clear an innocent of a capital crime.

I love that we get a bit more of the unrecorded story about what happened on board of the Friesland. And I second what SCFrankles already noted: the title is ingenious as Watson seems to desperately wish for a few dull moments in his life with Holmes. ;)

Eek! No wonder Watson craves a bit of sitting by the fire and listening to Holmes play the violin! The danger and excitement, I suspect, makes me quieter times seem that much sweeter and satisfying. This is a lovely insight into Watson and his feelings about Holmes's perhaps insensitive quip - thank you for this!

I can certainly see Watson enjoying the quieter things in life, as well as the excitement.
