Author's Notes: A possible backstory riddled with, I readily admit, too much coincidence. Inspired by the odd supposition that John Hector McFarlane would not know of the character of Jonas Oldacres. But what if he knew the man? What if amongst Oldacre's creditors were clients of Graham & McFarlane? What if the asthmatic, weak-mouthed Mister McFarlane had devised a trap that Jonas Oldacre stumbled into, rather than the other way around?


The landlord of the Anerley Arms handed the paper to the solicitor. "Here, my claim to Oldacre's assets. But he's still broke, is he not?"

"Oh no." A smile appeared on Mr Graham's face. "I had my junior partner on his case. Last week, Scotland Yard was able to retrieve his missing fortunes. Quite the bright young chap, my partner."

I like it ^_^ Flipping things around - young McFarlane not a victim, but the hero avenging his mother and helping his clients. Very dangerous game to play though ^^"

Oh excellent! I love seeing the tables turned on nasty villains, and Oldacre's a piece of work. I especially like that McFarlane was the one to help bring it about- score one for the weak-mouthed asthmatics of the world!
