"Studying too much Plato, have you?"

"Thucydides," Gilchrist muttered absent-mindedly.

"What?"

But Gilchrist had already disappeared into his room.

Thucydides... Well, he'd better spend the night reading up on the Peleponnesian War.

McLaren would not have known exactly which part of Thucydides work would be used for the exam. And the History of the Peleponnesian War is long. :)

I worry a little about McLaren - it's a shame to see someone wasting their intellect like that. I kind of hope he doesn't get the scholarship though. I'm not sure he deserves it, and missing out on the money may make him try harder.

My father taught Latin and Old Greek when he was still a teacher at school. :)

I am all for Daulat Ras winning the scholarship. One night of reviewing Thucydides will never make up for being well prepared. ;)

You and me both are rooting for Daulat Ras to win the Fortescue scholarship. Even when McLaren knew that the exam text was taken from Thucydides, he still did not know which passage exactly, and he would have to have studied Greek diligently to be able to translate it.
