I have to admit that, unlike Holmes, I preferred the southern European music that the great Sarasate played, and in particular his own compositions that reflected his Spanish origins.  And so, as Holmes introspected to the German music that he enjoyed, I was able to use the time to reflect on the ideal present for my dear Mary’s forthcoming birthday.

What a most wonderful idea for a drabble. I love that you have Watson tell us more about Sarasate and his own marriage to Mary. Now I of course wonder what birthday present he'll give her. :)

Lovely way to contrast the characters of Holmes and Watson. It seems entirely right to me that he would be more attuned to the music of Italy and Spain.

Certainly in the story Watson doesn't tell us about the music, choosing instead to describe Holmes' reaction to it and doing a little character study. Perhaps this was a neat way of getting round having to say he didn't particularly enjoy it ^^

I can ship Holmes and Watson with the best of them, but you can't ignore the depth of feeling Watson has for his wife. It's heartbreaking when he's longing for Mary Morstan but he thinks he can't have her.

As a musician I have a real soft spot for fic that takes music seriously, and this definitely fits the bill. A nice window into each of their characters, and creatively done.

Thank you. Having read up about Sarasate there were all sorts of possibilities, and unfortunately so far as the concert was concerned, Watson letting his mind wander was the one I chose.
