Mister Angel found Mary in a simply furnished room, a modern typewriter the only valuable possession. Her stock had lost its worth, but she'd never married. He lifted his tinted glasses, and for the first time she saw his warm grey eyes. He took her hand, raising her from the bed.

'I am back,' he said, 'to take you home.'

In my mind, Holmes didn't get it wrong, and this is Mary's vision in the hour of her death. But I love your Mister Angel + Mary Forever, and am all for it! Thank you!

What a wonderful play on the name "Angel" - Mr. Angel coming to take her to heaven ^^ I'm not sure exactly what your interpretation is, but I suppose this could be read as either Miss Sutherland imagining her lost lover as she dies, or that the afterlife gives existence to those that only live in the heart and imagination. Your story is gorgeous and so poignant.

I could not resist the last name of Hosmer Angel. :) Both your interpretations work very well for me - Mister Angel is an angel who takes Mary home to heaven, and either she imagines him in the shape of her long lost lover, or this particular angel decided to take Hosmer Angel's form.
