It's rather noble of Holmes to keep the secret. (Especially as both men attempted to murder him ^^") But I suppose he considers it irrelevant to the matter in hand - there is no need for Moriarty's private life to be brought to light.

Why yes, Professor's repute was already in ruins, it would be of no use to expose him as invert, in addition to be The Criminal Mastermind.
