Many thanks to [livejournal.com profile] hardboiledbaby for her help with proofreading.

“It was your own fault.” I smack the cold compress to Watson’s cheek.

He had left Dracula open on my desk. Unsurprisingly, it was ineffable twaddle. Yet, somehow gripping.

Therefore, when Watson soundlessly and quite suddenly touched my shoulder I acted on instinct.

He laughs again, wincing slightly from the bruise I caused: “Self-defence? Holmes, you shrieked like a girl.”

“It was entirely your fault.” Still blushing, I smack the cold compress to Watson’s cheek.

He had left Dracula open on my desk. Naturally, I was curious. It proved to be ineffable twaddle, as I suspected. Yet, I have to admit that Stoker has a knack for storytelling, as I ended up quite engrossed in it.

Therefore, when my dearest friend crept soundlessly behind me and without warning laid his hand on my shoulder, I acted on instinct.

Watson laughs again, wincing slightly from the bruise I caused: “You shrieked like a little girl.”

I will never live this down.

The Sussex Vampire is set in 1896 (according to William Stuart Baring-Gould) or 1901 (according to Ernest Bloomfield Zeisler). Dracula was first published in 1897.

Oh, very amusing ^_^

Holmes has my sympathy entirely ^^ I suspect Watson knew what the effect would be when he sneaked up on him like that ^^

This is brilliant! And I suspect Watson will think the bruise worth it for making Holmes shriek.

Well thought and well written. Holmes always has had a keen appreciation of literature.

(I'd say the shorter 60 was a trifle better, this time.)

Yes, never sneak up on a man with a fine, incisive mind reading a trashy novel. ; )
