Afterward, Holmes wondered whether Watson himself might have aided, or at least the habit of interlocution. Watson might have known the matter with the dying lad at once, have asked how a scourge came to be wielded in a tidal pool. It would have been enough.  In the end, sometimes a simpler mind was better able to solve certain mysteries.

Indeed. Without Watson to ask the obvious questions, Holmes does seem to look for the more obsure answer.

I do feel it would have been handy having a simpler mind there, to say: "He's sopping wet, Holmes! Of course he went into the water!" Sometimes these great minds can miss those sorts of tiny details ^_^

That's the reason Holmes and Watson work so good as a team. Genius mastermind simply needs a slightly earthbound partner, as every intelligent person tend to be terribly impractical at day-to-day matters.

I like this 60, though, Holmes appears rather lonely in it.
