“Too ‘poetic’?” I thrust my latest manuscript at Holmes. “There! You have my permission to edit it!”


Some days later Holmes returned my story.

“I think I have removed everything that was unnecessary,” he smirked.

I glanced at his work, then frowned. “I will never understand your sense of humour, Holmes.”

He had trimmed my story to exactly 60 words.

It was a glorious day in August. I can barely describe it. [5 paragraphs deleted.]

A client arrived at Baker Street. She was a [3 paragraphs deleted] woman.

And so Holmes uncovered the mystery!

“Once again you astound me, Holmes!” I declared. “Surely no detective in the world could match your skills!”

“It is true,” said my handsome friend, modestly. [Author’s note: I notice you d___ well kept that part in, Holmes.]

I have to say that She was a [3 paragraphs deleted] woman amuses me a great deal ^_^ It so sums Watson up that he'd put the 3 paragraphs in and it so sums Holmes up that he'd take them out again ^^

I have always maintained that telling a story in only 60 words is a particularly Holmesian thing to do - it's a puzzle that has to be worked out ^^ So there :P (^__^)
